Heather is Senior Lecturer in Broadcast Journalism at City University, London, and has considerable experience both as a broadcaster and a trainer. Her influence on training standards is reflected nationally, through her membership of the Broadcast Journalism Training Council. She co-wrote, with Nottingham Trent University, Britain's first honours degree course in broadcast journalism. She has spoken widely in Britain and Europe about education and the training of journalists, and is a guest lecturer at Northern Arizona University. Heather's formidable training credentials led her to become a founding tutor with the TRTU, and she has helped deliver successful courses to a wide range of clients both in the UK and abroad. She started her career as a newspaper journalist, moving to commercial radio in 1980. As a producer/reporter and later as news editor, she covered a wide range of major news and current affairs issues, both national and local; produced documentaries; and organised and presented national and local government election specials. |
