His ability to deliver first-class 'exclusives' rapidly made him one of the newsroom's leading figures, and following his appointment as civic affairs correspondent, he became one of the most influential figures in Midlands journalism. Switching to broadcasting in the early days of BBC local radio, Peter became a mainstay of Radio Leicester, and in more than a decade with the station, played a substantial role as senior news producer in setting the agenda for its news and current affairs output.
